Five Stride Skate School offers the best in roller derby coaching.  We offer coaching for roller derby leagues outside of the immediate NY area.   Coaches are able to teach intermediate to advanced skill levels.  For beginners in the New York area looking for training please contact Gotham Girls Roller Derby.

Athletes, no matter how talented they may be, are not always capable of coaching.  It’s incredibly difficult to take a skill that might be completely natural to someone and break it apart to make it useful, accessible and applicable to varying levels of experience and skill.   Bonnie and OMG WTF, by far and away, were the best trainers i’ve experienced in roller derby to date.  Their approach was fresh, their drills challenging, and their mentoring supportive.  I felt ungraceful and flustered for a good deal of their training, purely because I’d been introduced to a new way of thinking about my movement in relation to the desired outcome of a strategic situation.  The small amount of strategy discussion that was sprinkled in was useful and logical, no matter how advanced or novice a team might be.  I simply cannot say enough good things about these ladies! I knew that the training from Bonnie Thunders and OMG WTF would be good, but I didn’t know it would transform the way I think about the fundamentals of roller skating and roller derby.  I also really appreciated the step-by-step approach where all the drills taught built on each other, and the reason of each drill was very easily understood.  It was a lot of information, but with some practice I will be able to incorporate the skills into every aspect of my skating.  It was truly inspiring to have these ladies teach us at ACDG.
